1. The Cadillac CTS-V. With a 640hp V8. Just think less than a decade ago only the ultra expensive supercars made that kind of power. And it starts at 70k who doesn’t love all that power for 70k?
2. The Mercedes E63 AMG S. For when 550hp isn’t enough don’t worry the S gives you 577hp and an interior fit for a king.
3. Welcome friends to the Jaguar XFR-S. 550 supercharged ponies. This luxury sports sedan is more sport than luxury. But a whole lot of fun.
4. Balance. The Audi S6 with 450hp and the best AWD in the business. And thanks to Iron Man Audi is one of the coolest name plates in the business.
5. It might have invented the segment but today the M5 with 560hp offers the least fun for almost the most money. It has a manual but if one listens to rumors you will find the auto is supposed to be better and the M5 with uninspiring looks is loosing some the the original M5 charm. I want the crazy V10 back.
6. 470hp from a naturally aspirated 6.2 liter V8 engine. Sure it isn’t the most luxurious but you can have a hell of a lot of fun with the Chrysler 300 SRT-8.
6. Maserati Ghibli. 404 horsepower from a V6 engine. I ask you Maserati where is your racing spirit? Where is your crazy Italian flare? Where is your soul? Oh Alfa Romeo stole it? Wonderful at least one Italian still respects themselves.
? The Lexus GS-F. With 467hp it won’t be the heaviest hitter in terms of power but it sure makes a statement going down the road. Who knows where it will end up but I am glad Lexus is leaving the boring imagine behind them.

The Cadillac CTS-V does not start at $70k. It starts at $84k.
For me it’s the S6. It’s the best overall car here.
Also, the 300C is overrated, and the Panamera is missing.

5. It might have invented the segment but today the M5 with 560hp offers the least fun for almost the most money.
What makes you say this, and where is the Panamera ? Another thing is that the Audi that is supposed to compete with most of the cars is the RS6. The S6 is more of a M550i.

R-Spec Genesis, the ultimate Korean halo car. 435 HP V8, Hyundai badges, and understated styling. What more could you want from a sleeper?
![]() 10/01/2015 at 14:01 |
|
Yeah but we don’t get the RS6 in the US so I didn’t want to add it in. The Panamera is not a sedan. And I looked at a couple mags to get a general idea of ranking. The M5 was surprisingly low.

This spoiler looks so...down market for Jaguar.
![]() 10/01/2015 at 14:03 |

Take the Rs7 then and don’t be pedantic about what is a sedan, these cars are all competing against each other.
Also, why no Telsa P85D ?
![]() 10/01/2015 at 14:06 |

I’ve driven the E63 and was a passenger in the M5 and if it were my money, I’d honestly pick the M5. For starters I like Q Cars so the M5 is the only one doing anything for me regarding styling and when it comes to how they drive I still massively regret not getting a go in the M5. The Mercedes is nice, real nice but on track it just wasn’t as composed as the BMW. Also if I did buy one of these I would take them to the track because while lightness is all well and good there is something naughty flinging a big car around a track.

But it represents the level of fun you are about to have. Higher the spoiler=higher the fun
![]() 10/01/2015 at 14:09 |

Then why is it taller than the CTS-V?
hole in that argument!
Maybe one day soon we’ll get Lincoln on one of these lists, For the record the current Gen MKZ with the big motor, AWD, and an extra $1000 in tires can run with an M5 on a slalom course!
That’s a performance bargain if you ask me
![]() 10/01/2015 at 14:10 |

There was a smaller wing option but that is redundant for me since the one I want doesn’t have a wing option at all.
![]() 10/01/2015 at 14:13 |
|
That loophole does not exist.
The MKZ is a pretty great performance bargain. Maybe it is one of those secret awesome cars to buy in the future that no one remembers was great.

Car and driver lied to me

The Porsche is a wagon not sedan
![]() 10/01/2015 at 14:15 |
|
plus, you can get it as a wagon with a third seat :)
![]() 10/01/2015 at 14:16 |

Better styling and a more sporting personality. Hyundai did make a great interior on this car though.
![]() 10/01/2015 at 14:16 |

Where would you place the Rs7 and the P85D?
![]() 10/01/2015 at 14:17 |
|
I am not sure I would take a luxury sedan to the racetrack often. That is cool you got to experience both I bet it was quite a blast.
![]() 10/01/2015 at 14:18 |
|
A power wagon!
![]() 10/01/2015 at 14:20 |
|
Both in the top 5, the Jaaag would go way down the list because it’s outdated and only Clarkson really like it.
Both 300c (the V8 and the italian V6 one) would go way down the list.
![]() 10/01/2015 at 14:20 |

Where do you think the new alfa will slot in? Where would the Q50 Eau Rogue slot in? What about some of the others you left out? Tesla, Genesis, Charger Hellcat?
What if you decide to just murder the kids and get a coupe?
![]() 10/01/2015 at 14:20 |
|
Chevy SS?
![]() 10/01/2015 at 14:22 |
|
Less luxury more sport. Same category as Charger.
![]() 10/01/2015 at 14:23 |
|
If only they had offered the AMG wagon when they still owned Chrysler!
![]() 10/01/2015 at 14:24 |
|
Alfa is ATS sized. Q50 is the same story. Genesis I forgot. Charger is not luxury. I made a mistake on Tesla.
If you wish to murder your children I would suggest a new Z06
![]() 10/01/2015 at 14:29 |

Clarkson is king of all car opinions. Whatever anyone else says is invalid. MUST FOLLOW CLARKSON.
Honestly for me the RS7 would take 2nd place and the Tesla would snatch 4th. The Tesla has one big problem I can’t hear an engine and that ruins part of the sporting experience.
![]() 10/01/2015 at 14:29 |

Yeah and it’s dirt cheap £60 for an hour. Some people take some truly ridiculous stuff to the track. My first time at Brands Hatch I was expecting to see Lotuses, Ferraris and Porsches, which of course I did. What I wasn’t expecting was a Maybach, a Rapide and a friggin X6M.
![]() 10/01/2015 at 14:30 |
|
Haha I know have a life goal of taking a Maybach to a racetrack
![]() 10/01/2015 at 14:30 |
|
It’s close enough, it competes with all these cars, and drives better than anything on your list.
![]() 10/01/2015 at 14:34 |
|
The Porsche would be $95,000 for 420hp. Which is a lot. To get to the truly heavy hitters on the list you would have to pay $180,000 which is absurd. Plus it isn’t technically a sedan.
![]() 10/01/2015 at 14:46 |
|
I like the first one, though the wagon has pretty epic sleeper status
![]() 10/01/2015 at 14:46 |

These aren’t the Wings we’re looking for...
![]() 10/01/2015 at 14:48 |

Hmmm, if I had kids I’d imagine the conversation going like this...
“Well we could have the new Honda Odyssey or we can make some tough decisions and go home in the Z06 or Viper ACR...”
![]() 10/01/2015 at 14:50 |

You’re putting way too much weight into horsepower. What happens when you turn the wheel is every bit as important, and the Panamera is the only car here that masks its weight and feels every bit like a sports car when you hit the corners.
![]() 10/01/2015 at 14:58 |

The manual m5 is an after thought. It's only available here.
![]() 10/01/2015 at 15:27 |
|
Which is really quite sad
![]() 10/01/2015 at 15:30 |
|
And then you would get a divorce and never see your kids
![]() 10/01/2015 at 15:32 |
|
I am inclined to believe you because I’ve driven a Porsche Cayenne around the track and it was mind-boggling. However among the contenders on this list I am sure several of them could hold their own against the Panamera on turn in.
![]() 10/01/2015 at 15:44 |
|
I give you exhibit B: the STi
![]() 10/01/2015 at 15:52 |

I’ve driven a Panamera in anger on a track and it’s the best four door I have ever driven.
![]() 10/01/2015 at 16:07 |
|
Not really.
![]() 10/01/2015 at 17:37 |

I'm all for a fast dual clutch or auto. Sports sedans should have them in my opinion but people just also have the option to choose
![]() 10/01/2015 at 18:39 |

The CTS-V starts at 85k I'm pretty sure.
![]() 10/01/2015 at 18:58 |

I had a bad source
![]() 10/01/2015 at 19:07 |

I don’t wanna be that guy who bursts the fun bubble, but not jump seat in the AMG. It’s actually really dissappointing. On the bright side, it’s available with an orange interior...which is pretty nutty!
![]() 10/01/2015 at 19:19 |
|
It’s still better than all the supersedans at that price.
![]() 10/01/2015 at 19:23 |
|
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
They had that third seat all the way up until last year or a couple years ago. Not sure when the stopped it, but it was VERY recent!
The orange is cool tho
![]() 10/01/2015 at 19:38 |
|
They probably stopped when they updated the body style in 2014. My Mercedes expertise is mostly 2014 and up though so only a guess.
![]() 10/01/2015 at 20:11 |
|
That sounds like a good explanation. And I know they offered it in 2013, so the update would be the most likely place to kill it off :(
Probably when hey ended the hood ornament too :(
![]() 10/01/2015 at 20:36 |

Only the AMG S sedan gets the hood ornament now. At least the regular E class still has it. The 2013 E-63 wagon was really a high point for them.
